Our Activities

"Working together to inspire and empower our children to achieve their very best."

In July 2019, ACCT collaborated with RHS Rosemoor to host a fabulous exhibition of the children’s artwork, inspired by visits to the gardens and by literacy work done in school. The standard of the exhibition was amazing and had lots of great feedback from visiting members of the public. There are plans to hold another exhibition in summer 2021.

Children from all the Trust schools have access to the impressive art studio facilities at Appledore School. Regular art and nurture sessions are held there which benefit both creative skills and wellbeing.

PE lead teachers from across the Trust organize regular festivals in multi-skills and lots of different sports- for example tag rugby, netball, cricket and tennis, providing another opportunity for children from the different schools to get together. Many of these festivals make use of the excellent new facilities of ACCT partner Atlantic Racquet Centre in Bideford.

ARC also bring their passion for tennis into schools, in the form of lessons and extra-curricular clubs.

Anti-bullying workshops

The annual anti-bullying workshops, hosted by Instow School, have become a regular fixture in the ACCT calendar. The 2020 event will be a little different as all the children will be challenged to make a short video on the theme of ‘United Against Bullying’ to share with the other schools.

 Music and Drama

ACCT has given children the chance to take part in various music and drama events. For example the Allardice Hall in Parkham was the venue for a workshop focussing on a Midsummer Night's Dream, in which children had their first exposure to the language of Shakespeare and acted out parts of the play at the end of the day for an appreciative audience of parents.

Members of the Devon Youth Jazz Orchestra visited Woolsery school to run a workshop for aspiring musicians from all the schools. They had the chance to play together and were treated to an inspiring performance by the orchestra.

The Northam Care Trust welcomed a group of children along with Rob Pudner of Entertainingly Different to share lots of fun, including their favourite jokes!

ACCT partners the Northam Care Trust have been involved in various activities centred around gardening. Grant funding was used to buy gardening equipment for the schools, allowing them to enhance their outdoor spaces. There has been planting of flowers, vegetables and even trees.

 Staff development and support

Lead teachers in maths, English, PE and Early Years get together regularly to share training and best practice. Joint moderation events for maths and English are held every year.

All the head teachers work very closely together, offering not only support but also constructive challenge to each other in order to further the aims of the ACCT.
